Nora Calls the Dump Trucks
A free big truck bedtime story, written for ages 3–5 and ready to read aloud in about 3 minutes. Tonight's hero is Nora.
The Truck Train waited by a yellow sand hill. Nora climbed into a bright blue seat. Behind her were wide, flat cars. Big trucks rode there. Little trucks did, too.
Beside Nora sat two round sound buttons. They were for riders to press. One showed a red fire truck. One showed a yellow dump truck. At Dirt Hill, Nora could pick one.
The train started. Clickety-clack, clickety-clack! It passed a crane truck. It passed a mixer turning round and round. A dump truck tipped sand. Rumble, tumble, pat! Warm sun flashed on every window.
Nora looked at her two buttons. The fire sound was WEE-OO, WEE-OO! The dump sound was BEEP-BEEP-BOMP! Nora wanted the funny fire sound. She tapped her knees. "WEE-OO!" she sang.
Then the train stopped at Dirt Hill. Three big dump trucks rolled off. The smallest truck stayed behind. His name was Pip. He had one blue mud flap. "My family!" called Pip. They had rolled behind the tall hill. Pip could not see them. They could not see Pip. He was safe, but his wheels wiggled.
Pip called, "Beep! Beep!" His little horn was too soft. BRUM-BRUM went the trucks near the hill. Pip's family did not turn.
Nora looked at her buttons. She could pick the fire sound. It was still very funny. Or she could pick the dump sound. Nora put one finger on yellow. "I pick the dump sound," she said. "The fire sound is fun. But this will make your family look."
She pressed. BEEP-BEEP-BOMP! The loud call went over Dirt Hill. Three yellow noses peeked around the side. Pip's family rolled right back. "Pip!" they honked. Pip rolled down the wide train ramp. Bump, bump, bump! The dump trucks touched tires.
The Truck Train rolled on. Nora waved from her bright blue seat. Pip raised his yellow bed high. Three big beds rose beside his. Nora smiled at four dump trucks waving by the warm sand.
